Susan M. Erickson has practiced in Texas for nearly 30 years in the areas of general health law, managed care (including Medicaid managed care), the regulatory and operational aspects of other government-sponsored health care programs, and health insurance law.  Ms. Erickson has extensive experience working with a multitude of health care payor and provider clients.  She advises on contracting, licensure, regulatory and health care transactional matters.      

 

She most recently served as Lead Counsel, Health Transactions, at Babylon Healthcare.  Babylon is one of the world's fastest-growing digital-first, AI-enabled value-based care providers.   At Babylon, she handled a variety of health care regulatory and contracting matters, including telehealth clinical service agreements and value-based care agreements with health plans across multiple lines of business.

Before opening her private practice, Ms. Erickson refined her regulatory, compliance, and contract law expertise by serving as in-house general counsel at Superior HealthPlan, Inc., Texas’ largest Medicaid managed care organization, where Ms. Erickson was employed for over 8 years.  There, she oversaw the legal operations of a health plan with nearly one million members and was a principal contract negotiator with HHSC for Superior’s Medicaid and CHIP managed care contracts.  She managed a large variety of contracting endeavors for the company and was responsible for legislative, regulatory and compliance-related analyses and interpretations to ensure appropriate and compliant operations by the MCO.  

Prior to her tenure at Superior HealthPlan, Ms. Erickson practiced for 13 years as counsel with the international law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, LLP.   Her clients included health maintenance organizations, health insurance companies, TPAs, utilization review agents, MSOs, IPAs and PHOs, single service vision and dental plans, agent/brokers, and MEWAs.

 

Ms. Erickson maintains strong working relationships with key operational leaders at the Texas Department of Insurance, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, and other regulatory entities.  

 

Ms. Erickson received her law degree from Harvard Law School.  

She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, from Creighton University, in history and French.

 

She is a member of the Texas Bar Association and its Health Law section; the American Health Law Association; and, the Austin Bar Association and its Health Law section.
